Farewell to Cinnamon

Cinnamon is GoneWaiting for you...

Cinnamon had been feeling poorly off and on for the past year. About a year ago, she had problems with her kidneys and was dehydrating even when she was drinking more than a half-gallon of water a day. We nursed her through all that and she made a good recovery. But near the beginning of June this year she started to avoid eating and her stamina was really beginning to fail. She could no longer walk to the Post Office and even around the block was becoming too much. Sunny took her to the veterinary office for another check up. An ulcer was suspected, but the blood work came back with a diagnoses of renal (kidney) failure.

Cinnamon's Last Day
June 29, 2009

Cinnamon and I spent a leisurely day around the house. She sat on the floor in the hall until Daddy came home from work. We spent a few hours out n the front porch watching the squirrels at the feeder. She barked at passing critters and trucks. After a while we took a stroll around the property to survey the remains of the tree downed in the last storm and see the stacked logs along the rock wall. Our stroll continued to see the smaller branches and leaves that were stacked out at the street. Stops were made around the yard to leave her marks for other visiting dogs to find. She watched the Blue Jay gather peanuts out of the yard while I ate my yogurt. Then we came in for her tete'e’tete with Jazzpurr. Before leaving she enjoyed 2 milkbones and 8 pup corn treats, after refusing oatmeal for breakfast. While waiting during the day and at the Vet's we reviewed her adventures. From a puppy carrying her Halloween pumpkin around the backyard in Texas up to her April visit to Texas. And the Great Chipmunk Chase (indoors, no less) around the house earlier this month. A candle with lavender oil for a restful eternal sleep was lit in the hall at her favorite resting place, the spot that she considered her own.

Cinnamon is now working as a greeter in a larger place than here on earth. She will be missed every day by us and her other two-legged friends.
